What Is The Barnes Lab?

The Barnes Research Lab at Vanderbilt University is focused on supporting young children with or at risk for math disabilities and secondary students with reading comprehension disabilities. We study how cognitive and linguistic processes contribute to disabilities in reading comprehension and mathematics using a variety of methods including correlational and longitudinal studies, randomized controlled trials, and meta-analysis. Additional specialized topics in our lab concern inference-making and reading comprehension, risk factors, and intervention for co-occurring math and reading disabilities, combined cognitive and academic interventions, and technology-assisted interventions.
