When translation is hindered, either due to the features of the mRNAs or cellular stress, ribosomes stall and then bump into each other. Proteins in the cell sense these \u201cribosome collisions\u201d and trigger signaling for stress responses. Therefore, ribosomes multi-task by being a stress indicator in addition to synthesizing proteins.<\/p>\n<p>In the Meydan Lab, we focus on the mechanisms of protein synthesis, the regulatory role of ribosomes and the role of translation regulation in human health.
