Rigor means the depth of the math tasks across these aspects: procedural skills and fluency, conceptual understanding, and application.
Math Fluency
Reproducing math facts; recalling quickly (e.g. sequential counting); using precise vocabulary.
Math Procedures
Describing steps to solve a problem; getting correct answers; using math materials a specific way.
Math Concepts
Figuring out or explaining why a strategy works or not; explaining their thoughts.
Problem Solving
Changing strategies when a problem feature changes; generating problem solutions without previously worked out examples.
