Jessica was a graduate student at the University of Iowa (Lee lab), and will be funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/medschool.vanderbilt.edu\/neurogenomics\/\">Training Program in Functional Neurogenomics<\/a><\/li>\n<li>May: Roger gave an invited presentation at the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> International Calcium Channel Conference in Alpbach, Austria, titled \u201cCaMKII Interactions with Voltage-Gated Calcium Channels\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>May: Roger was honored to receive the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.vanderbilt.edu\/2018\/05\/24\/faculty-meeting-recognizes-excellence-in-education-research-and-clinical-service\/\">Charles R. Park Award<\/a> for basic research revealing insights into physiology or pathophysiology from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Park was Chairman of the Department of Physiology at Vanderbilt from 1952-84, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences!<\/li>\n<li>May: Our stellar undergraduate student, Keeley Spiess, graduated from Vanderbilt, with a Neuroscience major, and we are delighted that she will join the lab for a year (or two?) of postbac research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>December: Xiaohan defends his dissertation entitled: \u201cMultifaceted Regulation Of Neuronal L-Type Ca<sup>2+<\/sup> Channels By The N-Terminal Domain: From CaMKII Targeting To Nuclear Signaling\u201d. Great job, Xiaohan!<\/li>\n<li>December: Congrats to Brian for his paper now accepted in <em>Biological Psychiatry<\/em> entitled: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/29458998\">Role of Striatal Direct Pathway 2-Arachidonoylglycerol Signaling in Sociability and Repetitive Behavior<\/a>\u201d with a VUMC article written about the research <a href=\"http:\/\/news.vumc.org\/2018\/02\/08\/study-helps-map-signaling-system-in-brain-linked-to-asd\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>November: Tyler and Xiaohan present posters at the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience.<\/li>\n<li>October: Colbran lab wins the prize for best lab costume at the MPB Halloween Party, going as characters from the Game of Thrones \u2013 Daenerys Targaryen, John Snow and three dragons.<\/li>\n<li>October:\u00a0 Kudos to Keeley for winning the prize for best undergraduate poster presentation at the Vanderbilt Center for Addiction Research <a href=\"https:\/\/medschool.vanderbilt.edu\/vcar\/science-day\">Science Day<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>October: Congrats to Xiaohan for his paper in <em>The Journal of Biological Chemistry<\/em> entitled: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/28916724\">A novel mechanism for Ca<sup>2+<\/sup>\/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II targeting to L-type Ca<sup>2+<\/sup> channels that initiates long-range signaling to the nucleus<\/a>\u201d, featured in <a href=\"http:\/\/news.vumc.org\/2017\/12\/19\/forming-memories-through-camkii\/\">this Vanderbilt article<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>October:\u00a0 Christian presented a poster of her work \u201cThe Role of CaMKII in mGlu5 Signaling\u201d at the 9<sup>th<\/sup> International Meeting on Metabotropic Glutamate Receptors in Sicily, Italy.<\/li>\n<li>July: Xiaohan won the Best Student Poster Award, and was selected to give an oral presentation at the FASEB Ion Channels Conference in Steamboat Springs, CO.<\/li>\n<li>June: We are delighted to welcome Lan Hu to the lab, as our new Research Assistant and Lab manager.<\/li>\n<li>June: Tyler received 2nd place Poster Award at the Annual Molecular Physiology &amp; Biophysics Departmental Retreat.<\/li>\n<li>May: Bon Voyage to Walker, who completed his postbac year in the lab and moved on to bigger and better things to be determined.<\/li>\n<li>April: Alumna News: Hala Haddad, our\u00a0 2015 undergraduate summer student learned that she has been awarded a prestigious NSF graduate fellowship. A Vanderbilt article about his research is featured <a href=\"http:\/\/news.vumc.org\/2017\/02\/02\/gene-mutation-discovery-may-hold-autism-clues%E2%80%88study\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Roger traveled to China to speak at the annual meeting of the Chinese Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and also gave 4 other talks in Nanjing and Beijing. He was hosted by lab alumna, Yuxia Jiao in Beijing. A good excuse to try a\u00a0FLIP Burger for lunch!<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Hala\u00a0left for her senior year on\u00a0July 31 after a great rotation in the lab &#8211; celebrated with a lab lunch at Martin&#8217;s BBQ Joint<\/li>\n<li>Congratulations to Johanna, for the publication of her paper entitled &#8220;Differential CaMKII regulation by voltage-gated calcium channels in the striatum&#8221; in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/26255006\">Mol Cell Neurosci<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>July: Tyler P. passed his Ph.D. Qualifying Exam\u00a0and is now a Ph.D. Candidate<\/li>\n<li>\u200bIn June, we welcomed Hala Haddad\u00a0from Hunter College, NYC\u00a0to the lab for a summer research experience as part of the the <a href=\"https:\/\/medschool.vanderbilt.edu\/vssa\/bp-endure-program\">BP Endure program<\/a>. Hala\u00a0was born in Jordan and moved to the US as a teenager.<\/li>\n<li>Congratulations to Christian! \u00a0Her fellowship application to the AHA received a 1.35% score and will be funded July 1! She followed that up with a 6% score for her NRSA application to NIH!<\/li>\n<li>Congratulations to Brian!
