Ethan and Sara travel to Augusta!

Posted by on Monday, November 5, 2018 in Uncategorized.

Sara and Ethan traveled to Augusta, GA to present their research at the Southeastern Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society (SERMACS). Sara discussed her improvements on glucose, lactate and glutamate sensors for Liver-on-a-Chip systems, along with potentiometric sensors for potassium and calcium ions. Ethan presented on developing sensors for organophosphates, a type of nerve agent that can still be found in some pesticides and is deadly in large amounts. He tested his sensors on the back end of a neurovascular unit (NVU) which attempts to simulates the brain’s interaction with these chemicals and Ethan detected the outcome.
