Because mood disorders are associated with impaired information processing, the association between a cell adhesion receptor (integrin \u03b1V\u03b23) and the major target for antidepressant therapy (the serotonin transporter) reveals a novel pathway influenced by mood disorders. Here we test the hypothesis that integrin \u03b1V\u03b23 is a critical and, as yet, unrecognized determinant of serotonin signaling.<\/p>\n<p>We utilize mice models to understand the pathophysiology of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/health\/publications\/depression\/complete-index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">depression<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/health\/topics\/post-traumatic-stress-disorder-ptsd\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PTSD<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nimh.nih.gov\/health\/topics\/anxiety-disorders\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anxiety<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/health.nih.gov\/topic\/Autism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">autism<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are interested in understanding how integrins modulate the murine serotonin system using molecular approaches.
