I saw several\u00a0patients with various CHD&#8217;s\u00a0from mild to severe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">1) Symptoms Observed or Discussed<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Fainting<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Shortness of Breath<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Problem Eating<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Heart Murmurs (via EKG and stethoscope)<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Fractile\u00a0Shortening (Systole vs Diastole)<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">2.) Patients Observed<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Case #1: Mild CHD\n<ul>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Background: African American Female, age 12,\n<ul>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Being seen for routine follow-up post\u00a0Kawasaki&#8217;s disease( 3 years removed)<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Never had problems with coronary deficit that would be attributed from Kawasaki&#8217;s<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Fractile\u00a0Shortening 41.7% (normal)<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Has High Cholesterol<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Takes Keppra 2x daily\u00a0for other non-cardio related reasons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Procedure\/ Observation\/Course of Action\n<ul>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Heart sounds normal<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">EKG appears well within normal range<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">no leaking<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">No shortness of breath<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Approved for physical activity<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Check-up in 8 months<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Case #2: Moderate CHD\n<ul>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Background Hispanic Male, 1 year old (Spanish\u00a0translator required for interaction)\n<ul>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Being seen for atrial\u00a0septal defect<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Cardiac function is depressed<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">vigorous contraction<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">not high velocity<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Has PFO<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Patient has weakening of lower extremities<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Sweats disproportionately\u00a0to ambient temperature<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">gets colds easily afterwards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Procedure\/Observation\/Course of Action\n<ul>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Previous EKG: observed thickness in Right ventricle<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Current EKG: heart defect healing, appears almost normal<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Check-up in 8-months for heart<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Referral to primary care for other ailments (weakening, sweating)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Case #3: Severe CHD\n<ul>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Background: Caucasian Female, 3 months old\n<ul>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Had Surgery at birth to fix VSD (would lead to heart failure)<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Not gaining weight<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Premature infant<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">regurgitation through tricuspid valve<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">has a g-tube<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Had a laryngeal\u00a0plasty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Procedure\/Observation\/Course of Action\n<ul>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">EKG looks a lot better<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Has a problem eating<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Strider when upset<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Listened to EKG has pulmonic valve stenosis<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\">Listened via stethoscope to the PS<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I observed in the pediatric cardiology\u00a0clinic with Dr.\u00a0Scott Baldwin\u00a0August of 2017.
